My name is C.W. Slade. I was born in Los Angeles. I am currently residing both in Los Angeles and Mammoth Lakes, California. These two opposite environmnents offer me an opportunity to explore very different worlds. This gives me a perspective in my work allowing me to go from a very free and spontaeous practice to one that is more intentional. For me the most important aspect of my work is curiosity. This is my driving factor. Almost everything interests me which of course can be overwhelming at best. My studio is my sanctuary, where I go to sort it all out. I leave my thinking at the door and allow my heart to enter.

C. W. Slade is a contemporary mixed media artist working in a variety of mediums including painting, collage and printmaking. She incorporates her travels, philosophy, and poetry into her own unique artistic language. She is a storyteller using the artistic process as a means of exploring life’s mysteries. Beneath the surface of each painting are evocative suggestions of color form and language that reflect the artist’s process. Her paintings allow the viewer freedom to participate in the process by offering clues, messages and fragments of meaning. Recognizable images are gracefully integrated within the abstract composition thus creating a bridge into the painters territory. Totally committed to the ideas that truth in art lies in the act of creation and requires the artist complete surrender of rational thought.
C.W. has been an artist her entire life and has studied at the Otis Institute of Art, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Florence as well as private studies with several acclaimed artists. Her work can be found in numerous collections in the United States and Europe.
